Project DoD is a nonprofit collective organized to research and develop
tools, technologies, and infrastructure that promote community,
solidarity, and autonomy. Our hopes are that through such research and
development these tools, technologies, and infrastructure, will encourage
and empower members of the general public to learn, participate, and
educate the world around them. Project DoD is not centrally owned and
does not consist of a select few coordinating members, rather anyone who
becomes a member and wishes to participate in the membership committee
will have equal say, and equal vote in the decisions that effect our
projects and goals. If you simply wish to suggest a project for DoD,
then you should join the collective mailing list on the about page and
post your proposal there. Project DoD started as a hosting collective
for the underground music scene providing a digital outlet for a variety
of artists. We would like to thank the underground community for their
support and help in shaping Project DoD into what we are today.

Sat, 08 Oct 2011 08:28:59 +0000 Project DoDA little over a year ago Project DoD started building a whole new batch of servers, which we outfitted with commodity Seagate Barracuda disks. When we were benchmarking the speed of the new servers we noticed a major disk performance problem: rotational vibration. For more details see the original post. At first we thought it [...] - Two New Drives for a MySQL Upgrade
Fri, 16 Sep 2011 04:07:00 +0000 Hosting ProjectWe just bought two new Seagate Constellation ES 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5 drives to build a new MySQL box. That’s right, we are getting ready to upgrade MySQL (to 5.5) on dod.net, but downtime should be low. We are going to lock out adding new databases in the account manager, then slowly migrate [...] - Project DoD?s Reverse Caching Proxy
Mon, 12 Sep 2011 21:23:54 +0000 Hosting ProjectRecently, we needed to build a reverse caching proxy to take some load off of one of our servers. I’ve been playing with Node.js for about a month, and it seemed like just the thing to implement something quick in. For those of you that don’t know about Node yet, it is a JavaScript implementation [...] - Blackhat 2010 The DMCA and ACTA Vs Academic and Professional Research
Sat, 10 Sep 2011 09:28:30 +0000 Project DoDHere is the content of the DMCA talk Tiffany Rad and Christopher Mooney gave at H.O.P.E. and Blackhat in 2010. The video starts washed out, but clears up shortly after. You can find the whitepaper for the talk at http://www.dod.net/dmca_paper.pdf, as well as the slides for the talk at http://www.dod.net/dmca_slides.pdf. - 4x Donation Matching Challenge on First $2000

That is, if you donate $100, on June 1st we will get a $400.00 matching donation, bringing the total to $500. This very generous offer means that if we can get $2000 total [...] - Project DoD Meets 2010 Financial Goals
Sun, 15 May 2011 18:09:04 +0000 Project DoDNormally we try to complete our finances just before the new year, but things have been busy. Having just completed our 2010 finances I can report that the news was positive. Despite trying a very risky network/server expansion in order to provide a geographically diverse infrastructure resistant to censorship, we were able to meet our [...] - Updated Wildcard Certificate for irc.dod.net port 6697
Sun, 15 May 2011 17:59:56 +0000 IRC ProjectJust letting everyone know that we’ve updated our wildcard cert for irc.dod.net so that people can use our IRC server over SSL on port 6697 without it yammering about certificate warnings. Note that this does not apply to http://chat.dod.net/ , as that is a web service provided for our users that are less capable of [...] - C-32 Service Provider Provisions
Fri, 04 Jun 2010 08:40:36 +0000 Project DoDProject DoD cannot caution Canadians enough to be mindful of the free speech and censorship implications of tying a for-profit third party’s liability to user’s Internet content with no judicial oversight. If you are a Canadian citizen, now is the time to act. A year ago Project DoD looked to Canadian data havens as a [...] |
